Guanacaste Fishing for roosters
The Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste Costa Rica is recognized throughout the world for having the rooster fish with average size around 60 pounds and catched close to the shore in deep not more than 70ft.
The fishing of the rooster is one of the best activities of heavy fishing in the shore that can be done with much patience even from the beach in the gulf of papagayo, this species that likes of the bottom of different forms as rocky bottom and sandy and of shallow depth, the activity for roosterfish is all year around and the preference of the majority of fishermen like to try to catch one of them, this fish can be captured with bait of several kinds and preferably live bait and especially the bonitas and among other baits also the blueruners and small mackerel.
To catch a rooster fish, it is necessary to dedicate time and a lot of patience since it is impossible to know with certainty the time in which they eat, although the local fishermen disagree in the tides, alleging that the best tide is in the morning and high tide, so that's why it is indispensable to be prepared with a good size bait fish.
in their habitat they travel in large groups when they are still juveniles of an average of 20 pounds and they separate of the group when they reach the adultes with a weight that surpass the 60 pounds.
The catch of these specimens are generally around 30 kilos of weight. The fishermen can try to fish them with light equipment and rapalas that is a very good form since being small they give great fight.
