Fishing Seasons in Guanacaste
Costa Rica has only 2 seasons recognized in the year: Winter and summer and these are 6 months in theory of duration each of them, the winter that goes from May to the beginning of November and the rest of the year is summer and very sunny. With regard to fishing, it can be said that it is throughout the year with respect to some species such as sailfish, marlin, roosterfish, jackfish to mention some of them. We can say that fishing is suitable for the whole year and offers the same opportunity to tourists and fishing enthusiasts to catch the species that we publish.
What do we hope to capture during our fishing trip in our days of vacation? that will depend on the conditions that are given in those days.
The fishing season for the summer has conditions that are unpredictable at the time, changing from one day to another, especially in the summer season and in the months of January, February and March, the fishing will vary according to temperature, visibility and weather conditions of the wind; having the possibilities to catch mahi mahi, rooster fish, bottom fishing for red snapper and others.
With regard to deep-sea fishing for sailfish, it is possible to consider the wind that is being given during that day or week as the summer winds are usually not more than 15 consecutive days in the Gulf of Papagayo and which are decreasing according to the atmospheric temperature and to avoid a bad time offshore since the place of action of the marlin or sailfish is not near the coast, but as 10 to 18 miles off shore, and with very good possibilities to catch a marlin or sailfish if that is what you are looking for.
The winter season, is certainly the most beautiful with excellent conditions of fishing of any type, with exception of the bottom fishing as the waters are warmer and gives the reproduction and hatching of the species as the mahi mahi, bonitas and others small fish on inshore.
Strong currents carry from the depths of the ocean a lot of plankton and also the rubbish of the rivers, which is a positive and negative effect at the same time and the neighboring villages are those that dirty these rivers, when they break out into the Pacific ocean with such pollution, they generate a habitat for the marine fauna and the sport fishing in the gulf of papagayo has great benefit doing fishing in the marine currents in search of the mahi mahi, and sailfish who are coming over into to the gulf in search of food since the activity of small fish is in very flat waters and near the shore and having very positive results even for sailfish and marlin. This will be possible if the conditions of the season are optimal and are not interrupted by El Niņo's phenomenon that has negatives affects for fishing in the Gulf of Papagayo.
Geographically, we are in the North Pacific of Costa Rica and the main rivers in the Central and South Pacific of the country.
Consult us or our Weather Forecast to evaluate conditions that will undoubtedly be favorable for sport fishing in the Gulf of Papagayo.
